SPRINGDALE, Ar. – It didn’t take long for the Drillers to establish what was going to happen in this game.
Tulsa burst out of the gates quickly and never let up in a 15-3 blowout of Northwest Arkansas on Saturday at Arvest Ballpark.
The Drillers got started quickly as Darin Holcomb singled to bring in Tim Wheeler and Ben Paulsen and take a 2-0 lead in the first.
It didn’t take Wheeler long to get back up to bat, for in the top of the second he blasted a three-run homer to increase the lead to 5-0.
After another run in the third, Tulsa topped itself again with a four-run fourth inning on three different RBI singles.
By the middle of the seventh inning, things were getting out of hand as the Drillers led 14-0.
Northwest Arkansas managed two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth, but it wasn’t near enough to chip away at the Drillers’ lead.
Juan Nicasio improved to 5-1 on the mound for Tulsa this season with the win.
Edgar Osuna got the loss for Northwest Arkansas.
The two teams will face each other again at 2 p.m. on Sunday in Springdale.
