TULSA, Okla. – The Tulsa Drillers got their series off to a rough start with a 6-1 loss to the Springfield Cardinals on Wednesday.
Any doubt on the outcome was erased in the top of the ninth inning as Springfield drove in four of its six runs to take its achieve its final margin.
The big inning from the Cardinals obviously discouraged the Tulsa batters, for three straight Drillers struck out swinging to end the game.
The only score of the game for the Drillers came in the bottom of the seventh, when Thomas Field sent a home run over the right field wall. But by that time Tulsa was already down 2-1.
Pitcher Nick Additon was impressive for Springfield, throwing eight innings and giving up just four hits and a run in the win.
Cory Riordan was still solid in a loss for Tulsa, giving up two runs and three hits in seven innings.
