COLUMBIA, Missouri -- One night after Abby Vock hit a walkoff home run in the bottom of the ninth, she was the hero again for No. 8 Missouri, scoring Sunday’s only run in a 1-0 win over the No. 6 Sooners.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth extra inning, the senior second baseman sent a single through the right side, just past the outreached glove of Sooner (33-13, 6-5) second baseman Briana Turang. Jenna Marston struck out looking in the next at-bat, but Vock took the opportunity to steal second base.
On a 3-and-1 count in the next at bat, Nicole Hudson hit a fly-ball single to center, Vock rounded third and headed for home. She slid in, and tagged the base past the glove of Jessica Shults to end the game.
Both starting pitchers threw gems, but Missouri’s (35-5, 9-1) Chelsea Thomas (20-3) was credited with a win for the outing. The redshirt sophomore pitched 11 innings, giving up just six hits, striking out 17 batters and gave up just one walk.
Keilani Ricketts (20-9) received a loss for the outing, giving up just one earned run and striking out 13 batters in the 10.2 innings of service.
The Sooners will take a week off and resume conference play at 7 p.m. Saturday in Norman, Okla. against Texas A&M.
