HOUSTON -- The Tulsa Golden Hurricane saw its 11-game win streak snapped as it was swept in a double-header by the Houston Cougars 2-0 and 9-1 Saturday.

The early game featured a pair of early strong pitching performances, but two poor at-bats cost Tulsa (32-11, 13-4) the early game. Aimee Creger (15-2) pitched five shutout innings, but in the bottom of the sixth gave up a two-run home run to Melissa Gregson to earn the loss.

For Houston (32-13, 13-4), Amanda Crabtree pitched a gem in the early game, giving up just two hits and striking out 13 in her complete-game shutout.

The nightcap saw yet another strong pitching performance and more offense, the vast majority coming from the Cougars.

Diedre Houston (3-0) kept the Golden Hurricane offense in check, giving up just two hits and one earned run and striking out seven in his five innings of service. Tulsa’s only run came in the top of the first on a Samantha Cobb ground out that allowed Caitlin Everett to score from third.

The Cougars responded immediately in the next half inning, with Jennifer Klinkert singling to left field to bring Holly Anderson home and tie the game. Reina Gaber flied out to center field in the next at-bat to bring Melissa Gregson home and take a one-run lead.

In the bottom of the second, Houston doubled its lead with one swing of the bat when Anderson homered to left field with Katy Beth Sherman on base.

Houston tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the four to end Jordan Kinnard’s (8-5) day, after allowing eight earned runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings of service.

Tulsa will try to avoid the sweep at noon on Sunday, before a mid-week series against the Kansas Jayhawks.
