Oral Roberts Completes Series Sweep of Centenary

The Golden Eagles allowed just three runs in the four-game weekend series against the Gents.

TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles closed out their conference-opening series sweep over the Centenary Gents with a 3-1 win Sunday.

The Golden Eagles (15-11, 4-0) scored first, taking a one-run lead in the bottom of the fourth on a TJ Bennett RBI single to center to bring Chris Elder home from third.

In the visitor’s half of the sixth, Centenary’s (18-12, 4-8) RJ Talamantes lead off with a single, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out to set up the tying run. Kyle Morton doubled to center field in the next at-bat to bring him home and tie the game.

In the next half-inning, Nick Baligod knocked a leadoff double and advanced to third on a sacrifice fly in the next at-bat. Brandon King followed with a single to left field to bring Baligod across the plate and take a 2-1 advantage.

Oral Roberts added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on with a Brett Sowers RBI single up the middle to bring Bennett home to take a two-run advantage.

Joe Spring (2-0) earned his second win of the season, giving up just one earned run on three hits in his six innings of service. The Gents’ Nic Parrot (0-1) received his first loss Sunday, giving up seven hits and two earned runs in 5.2 innings pitched.

The Golden Eagles will take five days off before heading to Macomb, Ill. for a three-game weekend series against Western Illinois.
