STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The No. 19 Oklahoma State Cowgirls fell to the No. 8 Texas Longhorns Saturday, 6-3.
OSU’s Chelsea Garcia hit a leadoff homer in the second, with teammate Julie Ward notching a two-run home run in the fifth, but the Longhorns had a big third inning to pull ahead and tacked on two additional runs late in the game for the win.
Texas was first on the board, when Lexy Bennett drove in an RBI to take the 1-0 lead. Garcia’s homer tied the game, but the Longhorns answered back in the top of the third by putting up three runs, including two homers -- one from Bennett and one from Amy Hooks.
UT inched ahead, putting up one run in each of the fifth and six innings, as OSU tried to rally late. The Cowgirls scored twice in the bottom of the fifth, including Ward’s two-run homer, but couldn’t produce enough runs to get back in the game.
Texas’ Blaire Luna threw seven innings, allowing six hits while striking out nine Cowgirls for the win. OSU’s Simone Freeman finished with the loss after throwing 5.1 innings, giving up 12 hits while striking out six batters.
The Longhorns and Cowgirls will face each other again Sunday at 12 p.m.
