AUSTIN, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns handed the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles their 10th loss of the season Tuesday after a narrow 2-1 game.
The Longhorns put up two runs in the bottom of the second inning -- the only two the team would need for the win. ORU’s Alex Gonzalez walked UT’s Lucas Kephart and Tant Shepherd followed by hitting a double to left field. Kevin Lusson hit another double, sending both Shepherd and Kephart home for the 2-0 lead.
ORU’s Joey Winiecki was walked and advanced to second on the next at-bat when Nick Baligod singled to center field. Spencer Barnett hit a sacrifice bunt, sending Baligod to second and Winiecki to third. Winiecki crossed home plate for the Golden Eagles’ only run of the night when Brandon King was thrown out at first. Schiller hit a pop fly for the last out of the inning.
Andrew McKirahan finished with the win after throwing 1.1 innings. He gave up one hit and struck out one batter. Gonzalez finished with the loss after tossing 2 innings, striking out one while giving up two earned runs.
Oral Roberts returns to action this weekend in San Diego Calif., with its first game Friday at 8 p.m.
