STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma State Cowboys took advantage of No. 4 Texas’ bullpen to top the Longhorns 10-3 Sunday to claim a win in the season series and hand Texas its first back-to-back losses of the season.
Texas (17-7, 4-2) pitcher Cole Green started the game hot, pitching four scoreless innings, and left the game in the sixth with the score tied 3-3. Between six relievers, including Kirby Bellow (0-1) who got the loss, the Longhorns pitchers allowed seven earned runs in the next three innings.
Cowboy (18-6, 3-3) reliever Randy McCurry (2-0) pitched 4.2 innings of two-hit baseball, walking two of the 18 batters he faced.
In the third at-bat of the bottom of the seventh inning, Randy McCurry singled to right field to bring Zach Johnson home from second to take a 4-3 advantage. In the next at-bat, Jared Womack scored on a wild pitch, followed by a throwing error from Davis Duren to take a 6-3 lead.
Two at-bats later, Hunter Bailey singled to right field to score Randy McCurry from third to extend the lead to four runs. Gabe Weidenaar tripled to right field in the next at-bat to score Bailey and Devin Shines to take a 9-3 lead. Two batters later, Womack walked to score Weidnaar and officially put the game out of reach.
The Cowboys will square off with Oklahoma Wesleyan at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, before heading to Lincoln, Neb. for a three-game series against the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
