MEMPHIS, Tennessee -- Oral Roberts snapped a two-game losing streak Sunday with a 3-1 win over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels to close out the Memphis Classic.
Six Golden Eagles (4-5) pitchers combined in the win, but Alec Smith (1-1) received the win for the game, despite giving up ORU’s only earned run of the game. Sean Johnson got the start for Oral Roberts, pitching 4.2 innings and gave up just three hits, but was unable to get the win.
ORU cracked the scoreboard in the bottom of the second, with T.J. Bennett driving in Brett Sowers in from second to take a 1-0 lead.
The Golden Eagles tacked on two more runs in the win, putting the game out of reach in the seventh inning.
Oral Roberts now takes five days off before a three-game home stand against Bethune-Cookman, starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
