STILLWATER, Okla. – With Ray Penn indefinitely suspended and Keiton Page struggling to hit shots, the OSU basketball team needed someone to step up and become a reliable point guard.
Reger Dowell has done his best to fill that role. Dowell has shown an explosive first step and is quickly transitioning into a regular starter. He said he still needs to work on his nerves.
“That first jump shot, just nerve,” Dowell said. “I can’t really explain it no more than that. I’ve got to just calm down and play basketball like I know how to do.”
Dowell has scored in double figures in each of OSU’s last three games, including a 13-point performance in the Cowboys’ victory over Texas Tech Saturday.
OSU head coach Travis Ford acknowledged that his team has its weaknesses, but effort is not one of them.
“It may not be the prettiest,” Ford said. “Definitely not, but they play hard. We are who we are.”
