TULSA, Oklahoma – In his first action in front of the home crowd in a month, Golden Hurricane freshman Jordan Clarkson didn’t look anything like a guy who missed four games with an ankle injury. The point guard from San Antonio slashed and juked his way to 15 big points in an 11-point win over Rice.
He’s almost back to normal.
“It will probably take me another week getting in and doing treatment and stuff,” Clarkson said. “I’ve still got a little pain, but it’s nothing really that I can’t play through.
“Other than that, I’m feeling pretty good.”
Clarkson suffered a high ankle sprain against Princeton on December 12th but looked sharp against the Owls. He played 28 minutes and went 3-of-7 from the field. He dished out two assists and made his eighth 3-pointer of the year.
Overall, he played very well.
“(It’s) a little swagger he hasn’t had for a month,” said head coach Doug Wojcik. “It’s been a long time.”
In his first game following the injury, Clarkson looked, in Wojcik’s words, “rusty”, on the road last Wednesday against UTEP. He played 17 minutes and committed three turnovers to go along with his three points. Saturday night was much better.
Clarkson and the Golden Hurricane travel to Arizona State on Wednesday in the team’s final non-conference game of the year.
