OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma State Cowboys led from wire to wire, but had to hold off a late push to beat Alabama 68-60 Saturday as part of the All-College Classic.
Neither team performed well on the offensive end to start the game, with the score standing at just 19-14 with two minutes left in the first half. But the Cowboys (10-1) went on an 11-2 run in those two minutes to take a 30-16 lead into halftime.
Alabama (5-6) slowly chipped away at that lead until it cut it down to three points; the game remained close for the rest of the night, but the Crimson Tide could never fully eliminate the lead.
Alabama began committing foul after foul – first unintentionally, then intentionally – in the game’s final six minutes, and OSU scored its last 14 points from the free-throw line to seal the win.
Keiton Page led the Cowboys with 20 points and went 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Ray Penn scored 12, and Jan-Paul Olukemi added 10. Scoring leader Marshall Moses struggled, shooting 2-of-9 and finishing with nine points.
JaMychal Green led Alabama with 16 points, Tony Mitchell scored 13 and Trevor Releford scored 12. No player on either team pulled down more than eight rebounds.
The Cowboys have now won their last six games, but will face their toughest opponents so far this season in their next two games. First they will host Stanford at 8 p.m. Tuesday before going on the road to face Gonzaga at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve.
