NORMAN, Oklahoma -- The University of Oklahoma announced Sunday that the Oklahoma Sooners will take on the Connecticut Huskies in the 2011 Fiesta Bowl.
The Sooners gained an automatic bid to the Fiesta Bowl after topping Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship Game, but there was doubt as to who their opponent would be.
UConn managed only an 8-5 overall record this year playing in the Big East, but won the conference’s automatic bowl bid based on a 5-2 conference record.
The Sooners are 5-6 in bowl games under Bob Stoops, including a BCS National Championship win over the Florida State Seminoles. Stoops won three consecutive bowl games – including the National Championship – before dropping five of his last seven bowl matchups.
The Fiesta Bowl will be played in Jan. 1 in Tempe, Arizona.
