TULSA, Oklahoma – The Golden Hurricane’s season probably did not start as its players and coaches were expecting.
Tulsa dropped a tough 68-64 game to Emporia State on Saturday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center to open the season 0-1.
TU’s shooting percentages were below expectations, to say the least. The Golden Hurricane shot 32 percent from the floor and just 52 percent from the free-throw line.
Taleya Mayberry led Tulsa with 25 points and had eight rebounds and Amanda Mason added 13.
Chanice Scott had seven points and nine rebounds for Tulsa.
Tulsa got down early and trailed 36-29 at halftime. But it fought its way back into the game and took its first lead, 53-51, with just less than eight minutes remaining in the game.
TU actually outscored ESU in the second half, but it was not enough to pull out the win.
Tulsa will return to action on Tuesday, visiting Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. at the Mabee Center.
