STILLWATER, Oklahoma – There are plenty of big-play possibilities on both sides of the field this Saturday when the Oklahoma State Cowboys host in-state foe Tulsa. Both teams have scored at will in their first two games.

“Tulsa is obviously very explosive,” said OSU head coach Mike Gundy. “We’ve got our hands full just getting ready to play Tulsa.”

Oklahoma State has posted 106 points in two games. Tulsa has tallied 72. The Pokes own a 19-game home winning streak over the Golden Hurricane and know that Saturday’s game has the potential to be a shootout.

“If you look at statistics, it looks like there are going to be a lot of points scored,” said Gundy. “That’s been mentioned in games we’ve played before and it doesn’t always turn out that way.”

The Cowboys have racked up 13 plays of 20 or more yards already this season. They’ve also scored on each of their first possessions in each half this season.

“I thought Kendall Hunter gave us opportunities to have big plays,” said Gundy. “I thought the ability of (quarterback Brandon) Weeden to throw the ball down the field would give us a chance to get big plays.”

Tulsa ranks fourth nationally in total offense, averaging 562.5 yards per game, and quarterback G.J. Kinne is second in the country in total offense (395.5 yards per game).

The defenses will be challenged by both teams but the toughest task may fall on the Golden Hurricane. They will need to find a way to slow down the Cowboys’ red zone attack. Gundy’s team is 9-for-9 in the red zone this season, tied for tops in the nation.

Expect points aplenty when these two high-powered offenses hook up this weekend.
