NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma Sooners punter Tress Way was named Co-Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week Tuesday, following OU’s season-opening win over Utah State.
Way hit an 85-yard punt, setting the record for longest punt in the Big 12 and marking it the third-best in school history.
The sophomore kicked eight punts in the Sooners’ 31-24 win over the Aggies, averaging 46.6 yards with three downed inside the 20-yard line.
Way, who graduated from Union High School, kicked off six times during the Sooners’ first game. Utah State’s average return was 21.8 yards, and their starting field position was on their own 25-yard line.
The Sooners will host Florida State Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
