NORMAN, Oklahoma -- Former Sooner, and two time Academic All-American, Dewey Selmon was announced as an inductee to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American Hall of Fame.
“Dewey Selmon’s career symbolizes OU’s commitment to excellence in both academics and athletics,” said OU President David L. Boren in a press release. “He represents the very best of the Sooner Spirit.”
Selmon was named an Academic All-American in 1974 and 1975 and was a standout on back-to-back national championship Sooner teams. He was a consensus All-American in 1975 and graduated from Oklahoma with a degree in Public Relations. The two-time All-Big Eight defensive lineman recorded 302 total tackles, 24 tackles for loss and two fumble recoveries in his career.
The other three others named as inductees are Dr. James Kovach, former Colgate standout Adonal Foyle and Connecticut College rowing star Anita DeFrants.
The CoSIDA Academic All-American Hall of Fame was established in 1988 and has inducted 108 members in its 22-year existence. The four newest members will be inducted at CoSIDA’s annual workshop in San Francisco, California July 6.
He will join his older brother Lee Roy Selmon in the CoSIDA Academic All-American Hall of Fame, who was inducted in 1994.
