PORTLAND, Oregon -- Oklahoma City slid past Portland 3-2 in a soggy affair Sunday. The game was delayed at the beginning due to wet field conditions and in the fifth inning due to rain.
Pedro Strop stopped a rally attempt by Portland in the ninth inning. After giving up a walk, Strop got the game-ending flyout to preserve the victory.
The RedHawks broke a 1-1 tie in with two runs in the fourth. Mitch Moreland and Craig Gentry scored on back-to-back plays to give Oklahoma City a 3-1 lead.
Hernan Iribarren scored the first run of the game for the Hawks in second inning. The lead was short lived as Chris Stewart crossed the plate in the bottom of the inning to knot the game at 1-1.
Anthony Contreras scored Portland’s other run in the bottom of the seventh on a double play groundout.
Michael Kirkman (5-1) earned the win for Oklahoma City, giving up just one earned run in five innings.
Sean Gallagher (0-2) absorbed the after allowing three earned runs in four innings.
The RedHawks start a four-game set with Tacoma at 9:00 p.m. Monday.
