TULSA, Oklahoma – Coming into Friday night’s Bedlam Series opener, Oklahoma already had a pretty good idea of what it felt like to ‘touch ‘em all’.
Just for good measure, the Sooners added to their conference leading home run total in a 7-6 come-from-behind win over Oklahoma State at ONEOK Field.
“I've been asked a lot about the home runs and it’s been a pleasant surprise,” said Sooners head coach Sunny Golloway.
The Sooners slammed five home runs against the Cowboys in the first of a three-game Bedlam series. They lead the Big 12 with 70 home runs this season. Garrett Buechele and Cameron Seitzer lead the team with 11 long-balls each, while true freshman Max White is right behind them with ten.
White launched his tenth homer in the fourth inning to break up a 4-0 Cowboys lead. Three Sooners went deep in the fifth inning, including a two-run blast from Seitzer to dead center field that give the Sooners a 5-4 lead.
"We are not a team that has to depend on hitting the long ball," said Buechele. "The fact that we can drive the ball out of the yard is good for our club late in games when we need runs."
Buechele’s two-run homer in the seventh inning added a little cushion and proved to be the game-winning run. The home run was Buechele’s third in as many games and the 15th of his career.
Sixteen of Oklahoma's homers have given the team the lead this season, and they have hit multiple long balls in 19 of 45 games.
After playing in front of a record crowd of 9,417 at ONEOK Field Friday in Tulsa, the Sooners and Cowboys resume the 2010 Bedlam Series Saturday and Sunday at Oklahoma City’s AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.
