OMAHA, Nebraska -- The Oklahoma City Redhawks dropped their first game against the Omaha Royals Monday, 4-2.
The Royals pulled ahead by putting up one run in the bottom of the fourth and a second in the bottom of the sixth. Ahead by two runs, Omaha’s Scott Thorman hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh.
The inning’s second run and the Royals’ fourth score came when David Lough hit a triple to send home Kila Ka’aihue and take a commanding 4-0 lead.
The Redhawks answered back with two runs in the top of the eighth inning when Emerson Frostad grounded out as Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Bradon Boggs scored.
Despite their two runs, Oklahoma City finished with the loss. Geoff Geary (3-3) threw 3.0 innings for the Redhawks. He gave up five hits and two runs while striking out one batter.
Philip Humber (2-2) ended with the win after throwing 7.0 innings. He gave up only two hits and struck out seven hitters.
The two teams play the second game Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
