STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma State Cowboys sneaked in one last run in the bottom of the eighth to break a 4-4 tie and win a three-game series against the Kansas Jayhawks.
The game’s last score came off a single to center field by Luis Uribe to hit home Nico Rosthenhausler from third. It was Uribe’s only at-bat of the day and counted as his 20th RBI of the season.
Mike Strong started on the mound for the Cowboys, pitching four innings. Strong (4-1) gave up four hits and struck out four batters. Andrew Heaney (4-1) earned the win for the Pokes after throwing 3.2 innings, striking out two Jayhawks and giving up two hits.
Travis Blankenship (0-2) finished with the loss for Kansas. He pitched one inning, giving up three hits.
It was a pitcher’s duel for the first three innings, until Oklahoma State posted the game’s first run when Davis Duren singled home Dane Phillips.
Kansas answered back in the top of the fifth by posting three runs, but OSU put up one run in the bottom of the same inning and trailed 3-2 heading into the sixth.
The Jayhawks felt the pressure in the seventh when Duren double to left field, hitting home Dusty Harvard. Duren scored later in the inning off a throwing error by KU’s Brett Lisher.
Kansas tied the game back up in the top of the eighth, but Oklahoma State finished the Jayhawks off with Uribe’s RBI.
