COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Danny Black drove in a total of six RBIs to lead the OU baseball team to a 10-2 blowout victory over Texas A&M Sunday.
Black’s first at-bat came in the second inning with the bases loaded, and he cleared them with a double to give the Sooners (29-11, 8-8) a 3-0 lead. Black scored on an Eric Ross single in the next at-bat to end the scoring in the inning.
The Aggies (22-16-1, 7-10-1) got on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Kevin Gonzalez, but OU quickly responded. The Sooners turned in their second big inning of the game in the fifth, and again Black led the charge.
After Caleb Bushyhead and Tyler Ogle each connected on RBI singles, Black drove both of them in with a three-run home run to extend the lead to 9-1. Texas A&M scored a run in the bottom of the inning, but failed to add any more runs for the rest of the game. Drew Harrison put the exclamation point on the Sooners’ scoring with a solo home run in the seventh.
The Sooners only outhit A&M 11-10, but the Aggies’ hits were much more scattered. Bobby Shore (6-2) earned the win after giving up two runs on eight hits in seven innings, and Jack Mayfield finished things off by giving up just two hits in the final two frames.
After struggling through a rough patch, the Sooners have now won two straight games and their first Big 12 series since early April. The will try to continue their success when they return to Norman to face Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
