TULSA, Oklahoma -- The death of Colorado Rockies President Keli McGregor is being felt all throughout the organization. He had an active role in the design of the Tulsa Drillers, a Rockies Double-A affiliate, new OneOK Field and maintained contact with the minor league team.
“Keli had been here [Tulsa] several times in our time with the Rockies,” Brian Carroll, Director of Media and Public Relations for the Drillers said. “[His death] was a total surprise and just so sadden and shocked by it.”
McGregor was found dead in his hotel room in Salt Lake City on Tuesday morning.
Even though he did not have a role in day-to-day operations with the Drillers, his effect was felt on all the affiliates as well as the big league club.
“Keli was very influential with the Rockies organization in their philosophy of character and players being a very important element on how they judge players,” Carroll said. “If it didn’t start with him it was very near starting with him.”
The Drillers will honor McGregor with a moment of silence before Thursday’s game against Springfield.
