NORMAN, Oklahoma – The white team dominated both sides of the ball on the way to a 23-0 win in OU’s Red/White Spring Game Saturday.

Suffering through rainy weather, neither offense could get much going early in the game. The red team came up with the game’s first big play on a long pass from Drew Allen to Jaz Reynolds, but R.J. Washington blocked Patrick O’Hara’s kick later in the drive to keep the game scoreless.

“The weather conditions were bad so when you factor in those things, I thought we had a solid day,” head coach Bob Stoops said. “It wasn’t perfect by any means, but it was good overall. I wish we could have had a nicer day, but I wish that more for the fans than anybody.”

Landry Jones led the white offense to the first score of the game on the next possession when Jimmy Stevens converted a 39-yard field goal. It was the first of three field goal attempts for Stevens, and he made all three.

Drew Allen later connected on his second big pass of the day, this time to Ryan Broyles. But Gabe Lynn intercepted Allen moments later, and the white defense took over from there.

Jeremy Beal shredded the red team’s offensive line, finishing with five sacks for 30 lost yards. Defenders were not allowed to hit the quarterbacks, so I sack was recorded when a player touched the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.

The white team as a whole recorded 11 sacks for 81 negative yards and never let Allen or backup John Nimmo get comfortable. Allen and Nimmo combined to go 13-of-29 for 194 yards and two interceptions.

True freshman receiver Kenny Stills was the surprise star of the white offense, catching six passes for 84 yards and a 31-yard touchdown. Tight end Trent Ratterree also had a good day, pulling in four catches for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Broyles finished with four catches for 69 yards to lead the red team, and Reynolds proved his status as a big-play threat with two catches for 65 yards.

The Sooners will now hold their final spring practice Monday and will begin their 2010 season Sept. 4 against Utah State.
