STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- Oklahoma State lost to Wichita State 9-6 in a contest that was shortened due to rain.

Wichita State (18-9) put two runs on the board early with a Bret Bascue two-run double to score Cody Lassley and Preston Springer in the top of the first inning.

Oklahoma State (17-9) played small ball to tie the game in the third, scoring runs on singles by Mark Ginther and Kevin David.

The Shockers created offense on extra-base hits in the fifth. After a Preston Springer single scored Tyler Grimes, Basque doubled to right to bring Springer home. In the next at-bat, Ryan Jones doubled to bring Bascue and Cody Lassley across the plate to make it 9-2.

Kevin Chambers pitched four innings for the Cowboys, giving up nine hits and seven earned runs and was credited with the loss. Wichita State’s Josh Smith went 6.2 innings and also gave up nine hits, but only surrendered four earned runs to receive a win for the contest.

OSU started forging a comeback in the seventh inning sparked by Ginther. In the second at-bat of the inning he hit a two-run homerun to close the gap to five.

Late in the inning with two outs on the board, Dusty Harvard singled up the middle to bring Luis Uribe and Kevin David home and make it a 9-6 game.

Storms blew in during the eighth and after a delay the game was called and OSU was given a loss for the game.

Oklahoma State is back in action Wednesday night in Missouri against the Missouri State Bears.
