TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa Talons are ready to start their first season in the Arena Football League. The team announced its final roster earlier this week and Oklahoma Sports brings you the player profiles.
2010 Talons Roster
Donovan Morgan
6’3” – 220 lbs. – WR
Morgan returns for his third stint with Talons after spending a short time in the Arena Football League. The man they call “Spiderman” won the 2007 AFL Rookie of the Year Award while playing for the Chicago Rush. While playing in the af2, he broke several records, including becoming the first player to break the 300-point barrier. The former Pearl River Community College standout also had short stints with the New York Jets, Buffalo Bills, and Houston Texans.
Jeff Hughley
5’6” – 165 lbs. – WR
The Talons leading receiver from the past two seasons returns for another year. Hughley combined to rack up 2,500 yards and 83 touchdowns in 2008 and 2009. The Chesapeake, Virginia native also became one of the biggest threats on specials teams during the past two seasons, combining for over 3,300 yards and five scores. Hughley played at Averett University in Virginia.
B.J. Barre
6’2” – 209 lbs. – DB
This former Ohio State player has extensive experience in the Arena Football League. After beginning his career with the Chicago Rush in 2004, Barre spent most of his AFL career with Columbus. His best season came in 2006 when he caught 34 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns on offense, while recording 56 tackles and eight turnovers on defense.
Carlese Franklin
5’11” – 190 lbs. – WR
He returns to the Talons after catching 65 passes for 990 yards and 18 TDs in 2009. Franklin, who also played for the Louisiana Swashbucklers of the IFL, played college football at McNeese State and finished sixth in career catches and fifth in all-time receiving yards.
James Sadler
6’1” – 215 lbs. – DB
Sadler has played on both levels of the arena football league, including one stint with the Talons. The former Southwestern Oklahoma State standout then moved on to play for the Chicago Rush until the AFL folded.
Larico Stevenson
5’11’’ – 190 lbs. – DB
Stevenson played in 12 games for the Talons last season and recorded three interceptions. In 2008, Stevenson had 56 tackles and one interception for the Lubbock Renegades. He played Division II college football at West Georgia.
Andre Burns
6’0” – 190 lbs. – DB
Burns played for in-state rival Oklahoma City in 2008-2009 and played one season with Rio Grande Valley in 2007. While playing for Missouri Western State University, Burns was named first team All-MIAA Conference and third team All-Southwest Region.
Justin Allgood
6’1” – 205 lbs. – QB
Allgood was the face of the team last year after combining for 4,300 all-purpose yards and an AF2 record 108 touchdowns passes. His gaudy numbers came after a 2008 season in which he threw for 2,938 yards and 64 touchdowns. Allgood, who began his career with Oklahoma City, played for Central Oklahoma in college and finished as the second leading passer in UCO history.
Tony Dodson
5’10’’ – 190 lbs. – K
This former Arkansas Razorback played for the Talons from 2001-2003.
Michael Potts
6’4” – 220 lbs. – QB
Potts threw 29 touchdowns for Manchester (AF2) in seven games last season. He tried out for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008 after playing quarterback for William & Mary in college.
Terrance Carter
6’4” – 260 lbs. – DE
Carter is returning for his fourth season as a Talon. He had four sacks in the opening game against Kentucky last year and finished with 11 tackles for loss in 2008. Carter was a four-year letterman at Colorado State and played in 29 games.
Odie Armstrong
6’2’’ – 260 lbs. – FB
Armstrong played for the UFL’s California Redwoods in the fall after playing for the AFL’s Orlando Predators. In 2008, he rushed 44 times for 138 yards and two touchdowns and caught 20 passes for 258 yards and 7 touchdowns. In 2007, he appeared in seven games with the Talons, averaging 4.2 yards per carry with eight total touchdowns. Armstrong graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University.
Steve Watson
6’3’’ – 260 lbs. – LB
Watson had 81 tackles and nine sacks in two seasons for the AFL’s San Jose Sabercats and was named to the first team all-arena team in 2008. He was also named first team all-AF2 while playing for the Arkansas Twisters in 2006. Watson played college football at Missouri State.
Jamar Ransom
6’3” – 230 lbs. – LB
Ransom was a ball hawk last year, recording a career-high 92.5 tackles, including 70 solo stops. He also was responsible for seven turnovers. The El Paso native played for Oklahoma State in college.
Byron Wilson
6’4’’ – 260 lbs. – LB
Wilson spent time in the Washington Redskins training camp during the 2008-2009 season. The Ohio native played at Alabama A&M and received all-conference honors. He also attended the University of Toledo.
Jordan Bedore
6’3’’ – 310 lbs. – OL
Bedore is beginning his first season in arena football. The former Kansas State lineman received all-Big 12 honorable mention in 2008.
Roderick Green
6’6’’ – 300 lbs. – OL
Green returns for another season with the Talons after being part of a stellar offensive line last season. Green played for Arkansas-Pine Bluff in college.
Brett Rayl
6’7’’ – 335 lbs. – OL
Rayl is another player returning to the Talons. In 2008, he played in eight games at center before suffering a knee injury. In 2006, the former Sooner was Invited to participate in the Dallas Desperados training camp and played in 8 of the 16 regular season games.
Antwan Floyd
6’1’’ – 315 lbs. – OL
Floyd is a Talons veteran that rushed for 88 yards and touchdowns five touchdowns last season. He also had five catches for 18 yards and one TD. After playing for two years of college football at the Virginia Military Institute, Floyd played for the University of Tulsa and participated on the 2003 Humanitarian Bowl team.
Gabe Nyenhuis
6’4’’ – 260 lbs. – DE
Nyenhuis finished his two-year AF1 career with 12.5 sacks, including 9.5 sacks for the 2008 Philadelphia Soul championship team. Nyehuis was also a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Atlanta Falcons, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, and Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Illinois native played for Colorado in college.
John Scott
6’1’’ – 308 lbs. – DL
Prior to the Talons, Scott played arena football for Rio Grande Valley and Tennessee Valley. He played college for Jacksonville State in college and was team captain as a senior.
Anthony Bolden
6’3’’ – 315 lbs. – OL
Bolden was another member of last year’s stellar offensive line and even reached the endzone. He played college football at Temple.
Delenell Reid
5’10’’ – 170 lbs. – DB
Reid returns for another season with the Talons and was part of the 2007 ArenaCup championship team. He played for Houston in college after a standout high school career in Arkansas.
