TULSA, Oklahoma -- Chelsie Wiley hit a game-winning jumper as time expired to lift Central Florida to a 50-49 victory over Tulsa Saturday. The loss snaps TU’s five-game winning streak.
Larrissa Williams scored 19 points to go along with 10 rebounds and Taleya Mayberry added 15 for the Golden Hurricane.
Wiley connected on just two field goals all game, but her last shot broke a more than 2:50 scoring drought by both teams. Mayberry hit a 3-pointer to give the Golden Hurricane (12-14, 6-9) a 47-46 lead at the 3:43 mark of the second half. Williams then converted a fast break layup to put TU on top 49-46. Emma Cannon’s bucket with 2:56 remaining in the second half cut UCF’s deficit to one point.
The Knights (9-15, 6-9) opened the second half on a 6-0 run to take a 34-25 advantage. Tulsa fought back with an 8-0 spurt to tie the game at 40 later in the second half.
The contest was just as close in the first half with 10 ties and eight lead changes. Neither team led by more than three points as UCF took a 28-25 lead into halftime.
D’Nay Daniels and Marshay White each finished with 11 points for the Knights.
Tulsa will hit the road to take on SMU Wednesday Mar. 3 at 7 p.m.
