STILLWATER, Oklahoma – Oklahoma State basketball coach Travis Ford told Oklahoma Sports’s John Holcomb Saturday that Cowboys guard Ray Penn will miss the rest of the season with a left knee injury.
Penn has been battling the injury for weeks and the last time he started a game was Jan. 20 against Colorado. He missed four consecutive contests before coming off the bench against Texas Tech. He logged 24 minutes but was largely ineffective, shooting 2-of-7 and scoring just seven points.
Penn was on crutches Saturday and was wearing a cast from his left knee down to his foot. Doctors likely will not even allow him to run until April. Coach Ford said Fred Gulley will be relied on to fill Penn’s spot permanently.
Gulley has seen increased playing time in Penn’s absence, including starts in four of the Cowboys’ last five games. In those five games, he has scored more than two points only once.
