LUBBOCK, Texas -- Danielle Robinson capped off a big night for the OU women with two clutch free throws to seal a 70-66 victory over Texas Tech Saturday.
Robinson scored a team-high 28 points, but her biggest came in the game’s closing seconds. With the Sooners (15-5, 5-2) up by two, Amanda Thompson missed a key free throw but came away with her own rebound.
Thompson gave the ball back to Robinson, who drew a foul and made both of the ensuing free throws. Texas Tech (13-7, 1-5) rushed its next possession and missed its final shot, allowing the Sooners to come away with the win.
The two teams stayed close throughout the first half and OU carried a 33-32 lead into the locker room, but the Sooners built a lead of as much as 12 points in the second half. The Red Raiders slowly cut into that lead and eventually tied it when Jordan Murphree converted a three-point play. But OU responded and never allowed Tech to take the lead.
Murphree finished with a game-high 28 points, but she received very little offensive assistance. Monique Smalls was the only other Red Raider in double figures.
In addition to Danielle Robinson’s 28, Nyeshia Stevenson and Carlee Roethlisberger combined to score 31 points for OU. Seven Sooners saw playing time, and six of them contributed scoring.
The Sooners’ victory came thanks to success at the free-throw line. They made 18 of their 20 attempts from the charity stripe, while Texas Tech made only eight of its 17.
OU has now won four of its last five games and will try to keep its success going at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Texas.
