TULSA, Oklahoma – The Oral Roberts women’s basketball team jumped out to a 25-point lead in the first half of its exhibition contest with Southeastern Oklahoma State and never let off the gas pedal, winning 104-57.
Freshman Kevi Luper lit up the scoreboard in her first game as a Golden Eagle, scoring 24 points on 9-16 shooting. The former Adair standout also had seven steals and five rebounds. Jaci Bigham, Jordan Pyle, Georgia Jones, Alex Adekunle, and Janae Voelker also reached double digits in the scoring column.
The Golden Eagles struggled early on in the first half and actually trailed 11-2 three minutes into the game. ORU turned it on over the next seven minutes, though, and turned the nine-point deficit into a 24-15 lead. The Savage Storm cut the lead to 29-21 with seven minutes remaining, but ORU put the game away by finishing the half on a 23-6 run.
Oral Roberts was consistent from the field throughout the contest, shooting 52 percent from the field in both halves. The Golden Eagles also played well on defense, holding SEOSU to 24 percent shooting.
It is the first time the Golden Eagles have hit the century mark since since scoring 101 against Houston Baptist last year. ORU opens up the 2009-10 season at home against Texas-Pan American on Nov. 13.
