NEW ORLEANS -- G.J. Kinne will start at quarterback in the Tulsa Golden Hurricane's opening game against Tulane. Coach Todd Graham made the announcement after his team went through a 75-minute walk-through.
"G.J. Kinne's going to be our starting quarterback," Graham said. "(Kinne) has displayed tremendous leadership and ability to run our offense. That's what we're excited about him taking over."
Kinne sat out last season after transferring from the University of Texas. The sophomore won the three-way competition between junior Jacob Bower, and true freshman Shavodrick Beaver.
"It was the closest, most competitive quarterback field I've had in all my years of coaching," Graham said. "I think that speaks volumes about the other two guys and what kind of talent we have at that position."
Kinne's first pass as a college quarterback will come Friday against the Green Wave.
