Expect a sunny and mild afternoon with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s.  The pattern will change soon and we'll be tracking the chance of storms for the second half of the week through part of the weekend.

Is this May or late September?

I was reminded this weekend why I love fall and winter.  It's hard to imagine, but just a week ago we were dealing with afternoon highs in the lower 90s.  It was so warm, I actually turned on my air conditioner about a week or so ago!  I try not to do that until I'm sweating like a pig.  ( Yes, I know pigs don't sweat.)

We had a baseball game Saturday morning at 11:15 and it was cold!  Gusty northwest winds.  Temps in the 50s.  I loved it.  I got a sun burn.

I heard a lot of folks questioning what was going on with our wild weather, but I really didn't hear anyone complaining.  Sunday was flat out fabulous with highs in the upper 60s with very dry air.  The sky was cobalt blue with a broken mid and low level cloud deck.  It actually reminded me of a late September day more than a day in mid May.

But we'll be moving back to reality soon with another powerful upper level system nearing the region by the end of the week.  The upper air flow will bring this system into the region in pieces, and our main chance wont show up until Thursday or Friday and could be lasting into Saturday.  There will be some small storm chances Wednesday, but the main show will be later this week into the weekend.

There will be a chance of severe weather with all modes possible.  It's mid May.  It's what we expect in Oklahoma this time of year.

But, I also know the pattern will soon undergo the yearly change.  The upper level pattern will begin to transition and the sun angle will grow even higher. The northern polar jet will soon begin its annual migration northward and the temperatures will start to move upward.  As we move into the early to mid June period, the upper air flow will no doubt give us a few weeks of northwest flow aloft, and I'll get little sleep due to late night and early morning storm complexes.  Time marches on and so does the weather, and before we know it, I'll be writing a post about a fine late September afternoon.
