TULSA, Oklahoma -- Low water level in the Arkansas River in Tulsa has caused organizers to cancel the annual Route 66 Regatta set for Saturday, April 16, 2011.
The coordinator of the event, Christine LaBarre, says Keystone Lake has fallen below drought level and the power company which controls water flow out of the dam says it is too low to release water.
This would have been the Tulsa Rowing Club's 20th year to hold the Route 66 Regatta.
A rowing team from Tulsa's sister city in Germany was among the teams scheduled to compete along with a number of teams from across the Midwest.
LaBarre says the Celler Ruderverein rowing team still plans to visit Tulsa this week.
The annual event began south of the 21st Street Bridge and finished near the River West Festival Park.
