TULSA, Oklahoma -- A Tulsa city councilor wants trash haulers to consider installing snow plow attachments on their trucks so they can be mobilized during a storm.
"They had the equipment, they had the manpower, but they weren't working during the last storm," said City Councilor Bill Christiansen.
Christiansen said Tulsa's contract hauler, TRI, has 158 vehicles and the City of Tulsa has 9 which could possibly be used.
Christiansen said it would cost $12,000 - $14,000 per truck for the extra equipment.
He says council staff discovered that numerous other cities use trash trucks to plow snow.
Christiansen wants the trash board to incorporate the option into the bid requirements for the next trash contract, which starts in 2012.
