SAPULPA, Oklahoma -- Around 130 members of the National Guard Reserve in Sapulpa will deploy to Afghanistan in April and community churches will be praying for their safe return.
But the Westside Free Will Baptist Church is planning to do even more and they invited the military families to lunch Friday so they could share their outreach plan.
In addition to the lunch, the church provided free entertainment and also prayed over the soldiers.
"We owe these men," one volunteer said. "We need to promote them as hey, these guys are going out to fight for our freedom."
"This means a lot," said E5 Sergeant Brandon Cooper. "You get over there and memories from home just start coming back and stuff like this just makes you really want to come back home."
The meal is just the beginning of the church's outpouring of love. Members who are plumbers, electricians, carpenters, landscapers, and childcare providers will be reaching out to help the soldiers' families in any way they can.
