"During her distinguished legal career, Judge Gurich has compiled an exemplary record of service on the bench and has consistently demonstrated the judicial temperament and intellect necessary to be an outstanding Supreme Court Justice," Governor Henry said. " I know she will perform her new duties with great professionalism and integrity, and I greatly appreciate her willingness to serve."

Gurich is only the third woman in state history to serve on the Oklahoma Supreme Court.

The appointment was one of Henry's final actions in office.  Republican Mary Fallin will be sworn in as the state's first female governor on Monday, January 10, 2011.
