TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa Opera may be moving into the vacant Fire Station No. 1 at Fourth and Frankfort. The Tulsa Development Authority voted to recommend the Tulsa Opera's proposal to buy and develop the fire station that has been vacant since 2002.

They plan to trade an almost 16 acre plot of land at 6100 East 36th Street North for the Fire Station which had been identified as surplus to the City's needs in a 2008 real estate study.

The fire station will house the Opera's administrative, educational, rehearsal and technical support operations. It will replace the company's current facilities, giving them more room and a chance to design the space to meet their needs.

The purchase will need to go before the Tulsa City Council for final approval.
