Oklahoma War Veteran Brings Four-Legged Friends Home From Iraq

UNDATED -- Oklahomans have stepped up to help an sailor from Oklahoma bring home two new members of his family.

John Carter, who is from Shawnee, and his Navy unit found Charlie and Bandit during a recent tour in Iraq. He says the dogs were barely surviving, but his group fed them, taught them tricks and he says they became a brotherhood.

"They were definitely there ready to protect us and no doubt lay down their own lives if there was ever any threat to us," he said.

Carter found a group that would help him bring the dogs to Shawnee, if he could raise the money.

A group called Saving Pets at Risk put the dogs' picture online and in no time, they had all of the money they needed.

Carter hopes to introduce his Iraq "brothers" to his family by Thanksgiving.
