TULSA, OK -- Central High's class of '65 is celebrating its 45th reunion this weekend. The reunion will bring together former best friends who'll meet each other for the first time in well, 45 years.
Bonnie (Williams) Dobbs and Diana (Smith) Wigfield were best friends during high school - each other's BFF, best friend forever. Diana's family moved away after graduation, and they lost touch.
We were at the airport waiting for Diana on a Delta flight from Minneapolis. They've gotten re-connected and will see each other for the first time in 45 years.
"She has two sons I have one," Bonnie said.
In the course of our waiting, Bonnie got a text message from Diana so she called. Diana said she was in baggage claim waiting for Bonnie.
"How did you get past me?" Bonnie asked.
Off to baggage claim for the long awaited reunion.
"Hi Bonnie, I'm so glad to see you," Diana said.
Finally they sat for a minute so we could talk, and I asked how in this high tech age did they not find each other. Bonnie didn't know Diana's married name, and Diana didn't have a computer to look Bonnie up. Finally a nephew with a very smart phone…
"He said I can find anybody," Diana said. "Well, I've got a challenge for you. He said ‘I found her she's in Oklahoma, but she's in Broken Arrow."
Since then they've been on the phone a lot, the reunion will be fun.
"I'm looking forward to spending time with my friend, seeing her and other people at the reunion," Diana said.
So good times ahead, off they go - BFFs together again.
The first stop was something basic.
The pair went to lunch, then a belated birthday celebration. The women's birthdays are one day apart: August 13th and 14th.
