TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- Flour sifters, panini presses, and crystal salad bowls. Registering for wedding gifts is a fun part of the planning. And thanks to a Tulsa graphic designer, it's now as easy as whipping out your cell phone.
How? Well, there's an app for that.
Something old: a wedding registry. Something new: using your cell phone to scan items on your wedding wish list.
The brainchild behind the latest app is Tulsa graphic designer and creative director Jimmy Gramblin.
"Instead of thinking of registering at stores, you are registering products," said Jimmy Gramblin, creator of the Wedding Scan App.
"I wanted to develop an iPhone application, but I wanted to create something that actually has a need and wasn't a fad. And marriage is not a fad. It's not going anywhere," he said.
The idea is convenience for a busy bride-to-be.
"Aesthetically it was designed for women," Gramblin said."It's very warm and fuzzy; it's very simple to use."
Gramblin says everyone has their cell phone on them, and using it streamlines the registry process - from big box stores to mom and pop shops which may not have a registry but have something you like.
"You pull out your phone; you start up the application, you hit scan, pull up an item," Gramblin said. "Hold it over - automatically recognizes it - and there it is. There's the product."
The items you scan go directly to your wedding website. A universal site that combines the "Mr. and Mrs. wants" into one space.
Creator Jimmy Gramblin says it also makes shopping for a wedding gift easier on guests. He says guests can buy the gifts online or in the store - for the happy couple.
Gramblin is expanding his app for baby showers and wish lists. They are also working to include other smart phones
