TULSA, OK -- Tulsa is in line for a major grant to help test out new services for the poor.
Mayor Dewey Bartlett announced the creation of a "social innovation fund" with money coming from the federal government and going to some Tulsa non-profits which will compete for the money.
The fund is passing through the City of New York, and the administration of Michael Bloomberg, who according to Mayor Bartlett, was instrumental in getting the grant awarded to Tulsa.
Bartlett said it could mean as much as $5 million dollars a year for five years in Tulsa.
Bartlett said "It focuses on the under employed, disadvantaged youth and also on individuals to help them understand the importance of saving money, things such as that."
The fund will be handled by the Tulsa Community Foundation.
