OKLAHOMA CITY, OK -- A former Marine killed in Thailand over the weekend grew up in Oklahoma.
According to the Marine's mother, Dashawn Longfellow graduated from Norman High School in 2005.
Police in Thailand says Longfellow's passport said he came from Littleton, Colorado.
The 23-year-old's body was found Saturday at a resort on Phuket Island in Thailand.
Officials say he had several stab wounds in his chest.
Witnesses say Longfellow got into a dispute with an angry customer. No other details on the fight have been released.
His mother, Tammy Longfellow, told Oklahoma City media her son traveled to Thailand in an effort to gain more knowledge of a form of martial arts.
"He accomplished a lot," Longfellow said. "He mastered every test they gave him. He worked his hardest and he did the best he could. He was very competitive. He always wants to win, and that's what he did."
Longfellow joined the Marines after graduation from high school.
