McCURTAIN COUNTY -- A private Florida-based company has agreed to purchase Weyerhaeuser's short-line railroad in southeastern Oklahoma.
The sale of the DeQueen and Eastern Railroad company to Patriot Rail Corporation operates a total of 87 route miles in southeast Oklahoma and southwest Arkansas.
In a news release from Weyerhaeuser and Patriot Rail, the sale also includes the purchase of five other Weyerhaeuser short-line railroads in Washington state and Mississippi.
The six railroads currently handle about 60,000 carloads of freight a year.
The railroads serve Weyerhaeuser and International Paper mills in the four states by moving finished products to mainline railroads.
Patriot Rail is a short line and regional freight railroad holding company based in Boca Raton, Florida.
