Locust Grove Man Drowns At Fort Gibson Lake Saturday

A Locust Grove man drowned at Fort Gibson Lake Saturday evening after jumping into the lake too cool off while fishing.

WAGONER COUNTY, OK -- A Locust Grove man drowned at Fort Gibson Lake Saturday evening.

Michael Lee Smith, 47, was fishing with a friend at a secluded spot in the Rocky Point area of Wagoner County when he decided to jump into the water to cool off, according to a report by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

OHP reports he never resurfaced. The drowning took place at about 7:22 p.m., and Smith's body was recovered and taken to the state Medical Examiner's office in Tulsa.

The trooper's report states Smith was not wearing a life vest.
