North Tulsa Flea Market Open For Business

TULSA, OK -- It's the newest venture to revitalize North Tulsa.

The Tulsa North Village Market opened Friday in the former Northland Shopping Center at 36th Street North and Hartford.

The Village Market is collaboration between the Greenwood Community Development Corporation and Neighbor-for-Neighbor.  It's an indoor flea market with enough room for 20 vendors.

"We expect to fill it in a month," said Reuben Gant, Greenwood Chamber President.

Nine spaces are already filled. Vendors plan to sell baked goods, art, books, and clothing. 

"I already have a spot out at the flea market out on Admiral," said Keisha Netoyer, a Village Market vendor. "But a lot of my business comes from the north side. So when someone told me there was a flea market opening out north it was like a blessing."

"What we want to do is one, we want to create the access in the community," Gant said. "And two, we want to help develop pedestrian traffic and awareness of shopping in the community."

Gant says many of the vendor's market products out of their homes and this new venture is an affordable way for them to profit.

"Because there wasn't a lot of overhead expenses," said Jackie Wilkes, Village Market vendor.  "It costs less for me to be able to come from my home and to be able to have a store front without all the overhead expenses."

The Tulsa North Village Market will be open on the weekend for now, but there are already plans to expand business hours.
