BROKEN ARROW, OK -- Every now and then we'll hear a story about someone seeing a religious symbol of some kind in an unlikely place.
Deidre Cartmill, a NewsOn6.com user, sent in a photo of a sunlit cross that appears on a fence in Broken Arrow in the springtime.
"I don't know how to explain it, there's just a cross on the fence," said Cartmill.
Cartmill said she has lived in her Broken Arrow home for ten years and the cross has probably always appeared on the back fence, but she has just noticed it the last four years.
"It's not like I see the Virgin Mary in the toast every morning, it's just the way the sun hits the window," said Cartmill.
In the early evening in the spring, the sunlight hits an upstairs window and reflects off into the backyard.
"Last night when I timed it, it lasted about 15 or 20 minutes," said Cartmill.
Cartmill said it starts out as a sunlit spot on the grass. She said as the sun's angle changes, the cross seems to travel up the fence and then disappear. She attaches no significant religious significance to it other than as a reminder.
"It's just a good reminder for me to thank God for all my blessings everyday when I see it," said Cartmill.
The cross reappears every spring when the sun's angle is just right to reflect the light off the window. It comes back every evening for about ten days. Then it's gone again until the following spring.
