TULSA, OK -- Nearly 3,000 flags are flying over Green Country, honoring the sacrifices of local veterans. Volunteers helped raise the Avenue of Flags at Floral Haven Cemetery Friday morning.

Joshua Simmons brought his three boys. After serving in Iraq, Simmons has made the trip to see the flags a family tradition.

Suzanne Ferguson says it's an important reminder of her husband's sacrifice.

"It's kind of overwhelming," said widow Suzanne Ferguson. "Of course, my husband is buried here, and he was a veteran and the flags just make me very emotional. It's great to be an American."

The Avenue of Flags can be visited through the week.
