DELAWARE COUNTY -- A Highway Patrol report blames unsafe speed on a curve and the presence of alcohol for the death of a 51-year-old Jay man Saturday night in Delaware County.
Raymond Ricks was driving a 1996 Harley Davison eastbound on State Highway 20 about two miles west of Jay when troopers say he lost control of his bike on a curve. The motorcycle went down an embankment, and Ricks was thrown 60 feet. He died at the scene of massive injuries.
His passenger, 54-year-old Karlene Ricks of Jay, was ejected 40 feet off the roadway during the crash. She was transported by Air-Evac to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition with head, trunk, arm and leg injuries.
The trooper's report notes the odor of alcohol present on the driver and lists the cause of the collision as unsafe speed. Neither driver or passenger was wearing a helmet.
