SAND SPRINGS, OK -- The Sand Springs city council has given its okay to for a microbrewery and restaurant company to purchase the city's Sand Springs Power and Water building at 227 North Main.
The 30,000 square foot building, commonly known as the "Powerhouse," has been around since the early part of the 20th Century.
In a news release from the city of Sand Springs, the Spring Loaded Brewing Company, LLC says their intent is to create a unique dining and entertainment venues within the building and on the property that can help make Sand Springs a regional destination while being a positive influence in the community.
Under the agreement, the company will have access to water at the Sand Springs Spring, located east of Adams Road along the Katy Trail.
The area adjacent to the Powerhouse building would be designated the "Spring Loaded District."
"This is a significant project that gives a unique building that's a part of our community's heritage a dynamic future that's at the heart of our goals for the area," City Economic Development Director Terry Walters said, "The plans for this building make it a destination restaurant and entertainment venue in itself, and lend themselves well to future development of the Keystone Corridor and areas adjacent to the Arkansas River."
The sale is contingent upon the company acquiring two adjacent properties for parking to the north and east that are not owned by the city of Sand Springs.
