TULSA, OK -- Iceland's volcanic eruption is giving some international travelers a chance to experience some Oklahoma hospitality because they can't get home to England.
The O'Donovan family's 2 week vacation to the U.S. is turning into a much longer stay.
"I found out Saturday morning that our flight was canceled like everyone else's," said Nick O'Donovan, a stranded traveler from England. "We're hoping and praying that we can get out."
"It's just a bit worrying," Sharon O'Donovan said. "Just being back to, getting back to normality, they can get back to school."
Sharon, a teacher, and the kids are missing school, and Nick, a dentist, is missing work.
"Guilty because people who need me back in England, I can't do anything about it," said Nick.
They're all missing home most of all. But despite the dilemma, the family says they're more fortunate than many.
"I've got a brother who is stuck in Slovakia, and he's thinking of buying a car and driving home." Nick said. "He texted me to buy a boat and start paddling."
The family is staying with longtime friends Russell and Jennifer Hill. Russell used to preach in England and is now the Skiatook Church of Christ minister.
"I know they're anxious, but it's also been a joy at the same time to just get some extra time with friends," said Jennifer Hill, a friend of the O'Donovan's.
For now, the O'Donovan's are making themselves at home in Oklahoma. The homework's been emailed, and now they're taking in some of Tulsa's attractions.
"Krispy Kremes," said Bethany O'Donovan, 10.
"Lake Skiatook that was fun as well, quite fun," said Declan O'Donovan, 12.
And while those may not compare to other stops on their trip, like the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam in Las Vegas, their delay is making for a memorable journey, a family trip they'll never forget.
The O'Donovan's hope to be able to fly home Saturday.
The Skiatook Church of Christ also has a member who is stuck in Wales on business and can't get back to Oklahoma.
